The Immortal Week

1 - 3 February 2023 4pm - 9pm

Inspired by the Celtic Revivalists we are bringing together 'The Immortal Week'

A 3 day live art event weaving through the ideas of William Sharp/ Rutland Boughton and the Ancient Sacred sites of Angel, Islington.

The English Composer Rutland Boughton was inspired by Celtic Mysticism - He wrote several musicals, plays and operas about the Ancient Celts.

In 1914 Boughton adapted a play by the Celtic revivalist William Sharp (aka Fiona MacLeod) into an opera -

This play was called 'The Immortal Hour' -

Boughton said it's was an Opera 'To reveal the great truths concealed behind this gossamer curtain of faery'

'The Immortal Hour' opened at the first ever Glastonbury Festival in 1914 and then was staged at the Old Vic on a record breaking run of over 600 shows -

It was then reprised in Islington at the Saddler Wells theatre in 1953 in the shadow of Merlin's Cave - a Scrying Pool said to be used by Merlin situated at the summit of Pentonville Road.
